NPFMC puts new cap on nonpollock trawler
The North Pacific Fishery Management Council has approved a tough new cap on king salmon catches for nonpollock trawlers in the Gulf of Alaska. On Saturday, the council voted 10-1 to limit nonpollock trawlers to 7,500 king salmon per year while pursuing nonpollock groundfish. Commercial salmon opens earlier than planned
Some years, the salmon show up late. Not this year. At noon today, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will open salmon fishing in waters off the north and western side of Kodiak, 48 hours earlier than originally expected.
