Sega proved the critics wrong. The junior plowed his way through the 285-pound bracket to claim his first state title with a dramatic 6-5 win over Palmer’s Brian Thompson in Satur...

Fish Factor: Volunteers wanted to test money-saving energy audits
Volunteers are needed to test drive some new money-saving methods for ‘do it yourself’ energy audits on fishing boats. “Just as with a home audit where you try and understand where your energy is going, you can learn how your vessel is consuming energy and find places where it might be wasted or not used as efficiently as possible, and frankly, most fishing vessels are not very energy efficient,” said Terry Johns...

300 Blockbuster stores are closing nationwide, but none are in Alaska
In the Lower 48, Blockbuster membership cards are becoming about as common as pay phones. Here in Alaska, while video rental stores may be suffering from competition, they’re still hanging on strong. Last week, Dish Network — parent company of Blockbuster — announced it will close about 300 stores nationwide. That’s about 35 percent of all Blockbusters nationwide and means only 500 remain open from a peak of 5,700...

A year after winning the 106-pound state championship as a sophomore, Caballa has put together a 31-3 record entering today’s 4A state championships at Bartlett High School in Anchorage. The junior doesn’t remember many of his 31 victories, but he can go in detail about eac...
