Comedy this weekend
It will be “a good night for laughs” in Kodiak on Saturday. That’s how Mike Amberg is advertising his comedy show this weekend. Mike Amberg told the Mirror he moved to Kodiak last year, and this will be his first show in Kodiak, but if all goes well, he’ll hopefully do more. Frontier Baptist Church hosts ‘Gathering’
Quiet neighborhoods in old Kodiak on Sunday morning meant that the residents were in church – not in bed. After church, they enjoyed a Sunday dinner, often with guests, napped, visited, took a ride and by six o’clock, they grabbed their Bibles and headed back to sanctuary for Sunday evening services. By mid-week the faithful were in church again for refreshment and rejuvenation. Their minds and hearts were challen...

Kodiak wrestling reloads for new season
Veteran wrestling coach Pat Costello doesn’t beat around the bush when assessing Kodiak’s 2014-2015 team. “It will be a growing season,” the Bears’ assistant coach and former head coach said. If kids progress like they have in the past we should be OK. We won’t be a strong contender, but we will be OK.” That is what happens when a team only returns three state place winners from a year ago, and loses several key c...

Truck catches fire downtown
If you think the truck that caught fire Wednesday on Shelikof Street is part of a drill for firefighters, think again. The owner, who did not want to be identified, said he started his 1985 Ford F250 and left it to warm up as he made a phone call while in the Pacific Seafoods employee parking lot. He turned around three minutes later to see smoke coming out of the engine and flames slithering from under the hood. ...
