The Kodiak Island Housing Authority is recruiting for the following Temporary positions in support of the Near Island Senior Housing project, a 32 unit apartment complex located on Near Island in Kodiak, Alaska. Work is expected on begin around July 1, 2013 and be completed by the end of November 2013. Successful candidates must provide their own housing and travel to the job site. Salary depends on experience. Experience on large construction projects and setting of panelized walls and manufactured I-Joists is desirable.
A fast paced work environment is expected and all positions will be expected to arrive on time to the job site and perform their job in a professional manner. Successful candidates could be required to work up to six days per week and up to ten hours per day.
Experienced Lead Carpenter (3 positions): Must have considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, practices used in the carpentry trades on large projects. Must be able to analyze various and individual problems independently, and work with the Construction Supervisor to solve them with professional results and excellent workmanship. Must be able to read and interpret construction plans, oversee framing crew, build stairs to local codes, and other duties as assigned.
Experienced Carpenter (3 positions): Knowledge of the standard practices, processes, tools and materials involved in trades related to general construction. Must be able to install floor joists, panelized walls, wall sheeting, plates and other duties as assigned.
Laborer (2 positions): Provide site cleanup, job site setup and rollup, supply carpenter with materials, apply caulking and glue, and other duties as assigned.
All positions must also: Be able to work in unfavorable weather conditions while maintaining good productivity. Have considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
