The City of Kodiak, Public Works Department is recruiting for a full-time Fleet Mechanic in the Public Works Department. The Department is looking for an experienced team player that has a desire to be a part of a progressive Public Works Department working hard to serve the needs of our community.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Performs technical maintenance duties on gas and diesel powered equipment and vehicles such as sedans, pick-ups, snow removal equipment, tractors, backhoes, and forklifts. Responsibilities may include: changing oil; repairing tires; servicing brake systems; flushing and repairing transmissions; running diagnostic scans and recording codes; replacing windows; and documenting service histories and repairs. May make recommendations of parts and related inventory needed for repairs; maintains service records; processes and prioritizes work orders.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Most work performed in shop with noise and odors. Some work performed off-site or outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Involves frequent heavy physical effort in lifting and/or moving equipment and in working in awkward positions with tools and/or equipment. Frequent labor and/or equipment operation requires physical exertion. Must work with and safely handle hazardous materials and chemicals. Occasional emergency or non-traditional work hours may be necessary. Employees in this position are subject to an alcohol and drug-testing program.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED. Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and two years of basic vehicle/equipment maintenance experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Must be able to obtain a commercial drivers license within six months of hire date.
