Kodiak’s Jaymi Bethea kickstarted her Lower 48 tour with a solid performance at the Portland Track Festival on Saturday in Portland, Ore.

Bethea, who recently graduated from KHS, placed second in the high school girls 2-mile run with a time of 11 minutes, 00.34 seconds.

Emily Nist of Bishop Kelly High School in Oregon placed first in 10:57.30.

On Thursday, Bethea is running the 5,000 meters at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greenboro, N.C.

She will also be running the 1-mile at the same meet on June 18.

From there she will compete in the junior women’s 5,000 at the USATF on June 24 in Eugene, Ore.

Last Tuesday, Bethea produced a personal-best time of 5:05.97 at Bartlett High School in the first race of The Alaska Running Academy’s Tuesday Night Mile point series.
