Dr. Bob Johnson, one of the volunteers collecting names in Kodiak, said the group hasn’t found a place to collect signatures inside.
Typical locations for fundraising groups, such as the lobby of Kodiak’s Safeway grocery store, aren’t allowed — petitioners have to work outside.
Johnson said for a group the size of theirs, it’s a chilly and ineffective way to work.
Rather than having the petition go to signers, he’s having signers come to the petition books. A book will be available at the offices of KMXT-FM, one is at the Rookery knit shop, and another will be at the Johnson home.
Borough Mayor Jerome Selby said he'll hit the road to get the signatures of known supporters.
Signature gatherers have until Jan. 6 to pick up 500 Kodiak names.
Johnson asks interested Kodiakans to call 654-5171 for more information.
