Friday’s alumni run at Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park didn’t draw the big guns Kodiak cross country coach Marcus Dunbar was hoping for.

However, the run did bring back a member of Kodiak’s 2008 state championship boys team.

Chaven Davidson, Kodiak’s fifth runner at state in 2008, graced the Bears’ home course for the first time since that year.

And he was feeling the pain after finishing seventh in 19 minutes, 44 seconds — nearly two minutes behind winner Cole Christiansen.

“It brought back memories. A lot fonder than this one here,” Davidson said. “It is pretty rough after you have been gone for awhile.”

Davidson led the early stages of Friday’s 5-kilometer race, but quickly gave way to younger runners Christiansen, Levi Fried and Levi Thomet.

“It was harder for me just because of where I am at shape-wise. The course was nice, though,” Davidson said.

Davidson is entering his junior year at Anderson University in Indiana. He ran cross country as a freshman, but now focuses on track.

“In an 8K you get to the 4K marker and you are halfway there, where you are almost done in high school,” Davidson said. “I figured out I am more of a mid-distance track guy.”

Kodiak High School cross country coach Sally Skimin took the girls race in 21:30. Junior Leah Cawthorn was second in 21:50.

Joining Skimin as an alumni runner in the girls race were Christy Roe, Jennifer Foster, Misty Mack, Jenny Myrick and Robyn Galleger.

Jordan Fogle and Howard Valley joined Davidson in the boys field.
