Two-term Kodiak City Council member Terry Haines’ petition to stand for re-election has been accepted, according to a Thursday announcement from city clerk Debra Marlar.

So far Haines is the only candidate to declare in the race for the two open city seats. Council member Randall Bishop’s term also ends in October.

The deadline to file for a place on the Oct. 7 ballot is 4:30 p.m. today.

In the race for Kodiak Island Borough School District Board of Education with two open seats, only Jeffrey Stewart has filed, according to the borough website.

Richard Carstens has filed for the Fire Protection Area 1 Board (two open seats), Mike Sirofchuck for the Service Area No. 1 Board (three open seats), and John Isadore and David Heuman for the Womens Bay Service Area Board (three open seats).

As of Thursday, no candidates had filed for the open places on the Bay View Road or Monashka Bay Road service area boards.
