The Kodiak Emerging Small Schools basketball team started its season last week on the mainland.

The Ravens squeaked by Lumen Christi, 42-40, Thursday in Anchorage and fell to Wasilla Lake Christian, 68-34, Saturday in Wasilla.

Kodiak ESS played Nikolaevsk late Monday night and concludes its weeklong trip with games at Cook Inlet Academy today and Ninilchik on Wednesday.

The team is made up of 12 players from Akhiok, Old Harbor, Larsen Bay, Port Lions, Ouzinkie and Karluk.

Thursday’s game was the first time coach Matt Neagly met his entire team.

“Over the course of this trip hopefully we can get to know each other more,” he said.

Neagly said Wade Bartleson had a dominating effort in the Ravens’ two-point win over Lumen Christi.
