A Kodiak man is accused of possessing methamphetamine and missing a court date.

Dennis Vargas, 38, faces two new felony charges, possession of a controlled substance and failure to appear in court on a felony charge. Both are class C felonies.

According to court documents, officers arrested Vargas for a warrant for not appearing in court for previous charges. Back in May, Vargas was charged with fourth-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony.

During the arrest on Aug. 3, officers asked Vargas if he had any weapons or anything else on his person. Vargas told one of the officers that he “had some dope on him,” documents read.

Officers searched Vargas and discovered a used capped hypodermic needle, K-Y Jelly, and a white dental floss container filled with an unknown substance later identified through tests as methamphetamine. Upon further search at the Kodiak Jail, officers discovered two plastic bags with white-colored residue in his pockets.
