Flushing is designed to remove accumulated sediment throughout the entire system. During the flush, water system customers may experience discolored water.
All water in the flushing program and all water in the mains is treated and disinfected water.
While the discolored water is aesthetically unpleasant, it meets state and federal drinking water standards. If you experience discolored water, public works advises turning on the cold water tap in your bathtub or another fixture without an aerator and letting the water run until it clears. Avoid using your washing machine until you have clear tap water.
Hydrant flushing is also taking place, and public works advises drivers to be careful. If you have any questions about these activities or have any special needs, call the city public works department at 486-8060.
