One of Alaska’s U.S. senators has thrown his support behind the Kodiak Launch Complex.

On Wednesday, Sen. Mark Begich signed a letter to Gen. William Shelton, commander of Air Force Space Command, urging him to “further integrate KLC into future space launch capabilities.”

Begich spokeswoman Julie Hasquet said the letter was a result of a meeting Alaska Aerospace acting CEO Craig Campbell had with Begich staffers during a recent Washington D.C., trip.

Hasquet said Begich has supported Kodiak Launch Complex well before the release of the letter, and this is intended to stir up business.

“It’s just kind of a way to say hey, don’t forget about us,” Hasquet said.
