KODIAK — Sen. Lisa Murkowski has added a man with a Kodiak connection to her Washington, D.C., staff.

Coast Guard Lt. Warren Wright, a former member of Air Station Kodiak, has been selected as the senator’s Coast Guard fellow, a member of the military assigned to cover issues related to his branch.

“The Coast Guard fellow program is a partnership between the service that the senator makes ample use of in terms of … expertise from active-duty Coasties,” said Matthew Felling, the senator’s press officer.

“As well as his well-versed experience in Kodiak, it was a major-league get for Sen. Murkowski’s office,” Felling said.

Wright transferred to Air Station Kodiak in July 2009 from Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi. He is a qualified aircraft commander in the HH-65 Dolphin helicopter and has more than 1,800 flight hours.

His current assignment is through the Office of Congressional and Governmental Affairs in Washington, and his role includes advising the senator on Arctic policy, the Coast Guard and Navy, the FAA, TSA, maritime industry and the Second Amendment.
