The Rev. Liz Huskey Simmons began as the new rector of the St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church on May 15.

Before coming to Kodiak, Simmons was the interim rector at a church in New York, and has also served in Arizona, Colorado and Wisconsin.

She has served as a priest for almost two decades, graduating from the General Theological Seminary in New York in 1994.

Some of Simmons’ specific areas of involvement have been alcohol and drug recovery, care for the elderly, people with depression, youth ministry, and concerns of the military and their dependents.

Simmons is looking forward to being in a close-knit community, as well as doing some kayaking and hiking.
