Soldotna, West remain top teams in football poll

After the first week of the high school football season, the medium-small schools Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network’s rankings remained the same.

Soldotna kept its top spot with a 53-6 thrashing of large-school Eagle River.

The Stars gained 451 total yards of offense in tallying the school’s 21st straight victory.

Juneau-Douglas remained second in the rankings after beating Kenai, 28-15. No. 3 North Pole edged large-school West Valley, 41-35, No. 4 Eielson defeated Homer, 41-16, and No. 5 Nikiski beat Thunder Mountain, 42-19.

West Anchorage and South Anchorage remained the top two teams in the large-school rankings.

West beat Palmer, 28-6, and South topped Dimond, 20-0.

Bartlett emerged in the rankings at No. 3 after beating Lathrop, 47-14. Service moved up a spot to No. 4 following its 14-6 win over Wasilla. Colony grabbed the fifth spot with its 23-13 win over East.

Palmer and Dimond dropped from the rankings.
