To the editor:

Alaska Waste has few choosing their optional cart services because the vast majority of Kodiak residents, law enforcement and ADF&G have made it clear the service is unsafe, impractical and just not wanted. Two dumpster stations have been removed on Spruce Cape Road in the past week even though the helo pad dumpster station is routinely overflowing. I predict other dumpster locations will disappear soon. Their next move was predictable — make it as inconvenient as possible for dumpster users — fewer dumpsters available, dumpsters always full, spread dumpsters so far apart that you must drive to take out your trash. This company is not serving our community well, charging borough residents higher rates for the same basic service. Is there anyone serving on the borough assembly who will stand up to Alaska Waste and say “enough”?
