Bird movie, owl spotting

The Kodiak Audubon Society screens the movie “The Big Year” at 7 p.m. today in Kodiak College’s Benny Benson Building. After the movie, join the society for an owl-spotting expedition. For more information, contact Cindy Trussell at 486-2878.

Gun show

The Kodiak Harbor Convention Center hosts the Emerald Isle Gun Show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Buy, sell or trade firearms for a $5 admission fee.

Women’s volleyball

The Kodiak High School gym hosts a women’s volleyball tournament from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Women seventh grade and up can register at 9:30 a.m. for games starting at 10:15 a.m. The entry fee is $7, and all proceeds go to the high school volleyball team.

Volcanic activity

The Baranov Museum hosts an activity at 1 p.m. Saturday about the 1912 Katmai volcanic eruption. Students will recreate a volcanic eruption in Sargent Park. The event is geared to third-graders.

Literary club

The Baranov Museum Literary Club meets at 2 p.m. Sunday to discuss Chaucer’s ‘The Wife of Bath” and “The Clerk’s Tale.” RSVP with Marie Acemah at 486-5920 or marie@baranovmuseum.org.

Class of 1974

The Kodiak Public Library Association is seeking members of the Kodiak High School Class of 1974 for an Arbor Day connection. In 1966, when members of that class were in fourth grade, their letter to the governor sparked the creation of Alaska’s Arbor Day. Contact Sarah Short at 942-5472.
