The Kodiak Maritime Museum and Kodiak College hosts a party from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday as volunteers put the finishing touches on the seiner Thelma C, which has been undergoing restoration in a shed at the college before preparation as a museum exhibit. All those who participated in the restoration of the boat are invited to attend.
Fly fishing clinic
Mack’s Sport Shop offers a fly fishing clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The class will be instructed by Hank Pennington, and the class fee is $50. Call 486-4276 or stop by the store for more information.
Migratory bird day
The Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and Kodiak Audubon Society host International Migratory Bird Day at the visitor center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Build bird feeders, meet a live great horned owl, and learn the basics of catching and tracking songbirds.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Kodiak public library will take place 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the library site atop Signal Hill. The public is invited to attend.
Kayak safety class
A kayaking safety class is being offered by the Kodiak Coast Guard Auxiliary from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in the commissary building of Coast Guard Base Kodiak. The fee for the class is $25 and covers all materials. Call Mike Amberg at 539-2248 for more information or to sign up.
Santa Cruzan coronation
The Filipino-American Association of Kodiak hosts its 2012 Santa Cruzan coronation night at 5 p.m. in the Kodiak Teen Center. Attendees will enjoy a fun evening of singing, dance and food. A donation of $10 or a dish to share is encouraged. For more information, call Carmen Limpahan at 654-9912.
