A Kodiak woman allegedly smashed the doors to the Kodiak Police Station with a rock for no apparent reason on Saturday.

Shauna McCarthy faces one charge of third-degree criminal mischief, a class C felony.

Police said McCarthy picked up a rock, walked up to the doorway and threw it at the station’s front door twice.

The rock did some damage the first time, then bounced off. The doors didn’t actually break until the second throw.

McCarthy didn’t try to flee after the incident.

“She sat down, and when officers approached her and asked what might have precipitated it she had no explanation,” Kodiak Police Chief T.C. Kamai said. “She said it was something she always wanted to do.”

McCarthy was taken into custody and lodged at the Kodiak Jail.

The police department is working to determine exact damage amounts, but estimates damages to be between $500 and $1,000.

“This is the first actual damage done to the new police station,” Kamai said.

Police don’t believe McCarthy was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

What about those robotic gun turrets built into the roof of the PD? I thought those were installed for just this sort of event.
