Another meet, another one-two finish for Kodiak’s Levi Thomet and Cole Christiansen.

The Bears’ talented cross country duo finished first and second at Saturday’s Skyview Invitational on the Tsalteshi Trails.

Last week, Thomet and Christiansen were the top two finishers at the Bartlett Invitational.

This week, Thomet got a 5-kilometer win in 16 minutes, 11.8 seconds, while Christiansen clocked a 16:12.9.

The two moved up through the field, as Kodiak’s strategy was to keep its front pack back to help improve its back runners.

“We were trying to focus on our fifth, sixth and seventh man running closer. They just weren’t ready to run the faster pace, but they did improve,” Kodiak coach Marcus Dunbar said.

“Our front three did a superb job of moving up during the race.”

Despite having the top two runners, Kodiak placed second as a team, 57 points behind champion Service.

For the second consecutive week, Levi Fried recorded an eighth-place finish in 16:36.

Kodiak’s girls placed fifth with 174 points, paced by Adriane Horn’s 23rd-place finish in 20:02.

Leah Cawthorn was 26th in 20:11.3.

This was the first meet where Kodiak displayed its full girls team.

“I’m very pleased with the girls team,” Dunbar said.

Wasilla won the team title with 63 points, while Kenai sophomore Allie Ostrander was first in 17:37.

On Friday, Kodiak hosts Skyview and West Valley. The Wolfpack boys won last week’s Bartlett Invitational and are one of the top teams in the state.
