Last week might have been the worst week I’ve ever had as a prognosticator.

I was sub-par in picking NFL games and did even worse in my high school picks. My cat could have done a better job than I did.

I went an appalling 4-3 last week in picking medium-small school games. That puts me at 29-10 for the season, for a .743 winning percentage. I have three weeks left of the regular season to get above my goal of .800.

I swung and missed on Valdez beating Ketchikan, Skyview beating Homer and Kodiak topping Kenai. For those counting, that’s two weeks in a row I’ve misfired on the home team.

On to Week 6.

Thunder Mountain (3-2) at Ketchikan (0-5) — I still can’t believe Thunder Mountain lost to Skyview in double-overtime. I’m pretty confident the Falcons get back on track this week against winless Ketchikan ... FALCONS 35, KINGS 7.

Sitka (1-3) at Barrow (3-1) — Is it snowing in Barrow yet? The Whalers earn an easy nonconference victory against Sitka ... WHALERS 27, WOLVES 14.

Eielson (5-0) at Monroe (3-1) — Eielson won a shootout on the Kenai Peninsula last week and will continue to score at will this week against No. 4 Monroe ... RAVENS 55, RAMS 28.

Valdez (1-4) at Nikiski (3-2) — I might dislike teams with a bulldog as a mascot, but I can’t pick against Nikiski in this one ... BULLDOGS 45, BUCCANEERS 0.

Skyview (1-4) at Homer (2-2) — Skyview’s one-game win streak stops here ... MARINERS 42, PANTHERS 6.

Kenai (0-5) at Houston (2-3) — I picked Kenai to get its first win of the season last week and I’m going to go with them again this week ... KARDINALS 28, HAWKS 13.

Soldotna (4-1) at Kodiak (3-2) — Kodiak enters this game 0-12 all-time against Soldotna and would like to put an end to that streak Saturday.

As much as I would like to give the nod to Kodiak, Soldotna will spoil the debut of artificial turf at Joe Floyd Track and Field ... STARS 56, BEARS 14.
