Booths from about 20 businesses are scheduled to set up Saturday at the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center for the third annual show. Nineteen businesses have confirmed reservations, and up to five more may show up.
The event is billed as a show “put on by women, for women,” and includes goods and services including clothing, fitness, food and beauty products. Off-island vendors include Lake Otis Medical Supply and Alaska Vein Center.
The Kodiak Women’s show was started in 2011 by Melody Vahl and Ashley Eads. This year Ellen Simeonoff and LeAnn Conner, both with radio station KVOK-FM, took the lead. They’ve moved the event from the fall to February and have introduced a batch of mostly new venders.
The women’s show used to feature businesses that were owned and operated by women. This year, to broaden the scope of the event, some businesses owned or run by men made the lineup.
“In order for this to grow or continue it really needs to really just be about women,” Simeonoff said. “People have very limited time and schedule and might not all be able to show up.”
The show is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. At noon, Carol Austerman with clothing business CAbi is organizing a fashion show.
