The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary presented the winners of its third annual Kids Don’t Float poster contest during the March 31 meeting of the Kodiak Island Borough School District Board of Education. Wes Hanna, Kodiak flotilla commander, said 220 children from local schools took part. Winning posters will be on display at the Kodiak Public Library.

The winners are: kindergarteners Alyssa Arellano, first place, from Mrs. Crocetti's Class at Main Elementary and Vivian Winters, second place, from Mrs. Dupras' Class at North Star Elementary; first-graders Kaiden Maloney, first, from Ms. Renslo's Class at East Elementary and Coral Klemzak, second, from Mrs. Glover's Class at East Elementary; second-graders Lauren Skonberg, first, from Mrs. March's Class at North Star Elementary and Aliesha Miranda, second, from Mrs. Lindquist's Class at North Star Elementary; third-graders Hamo Sega, first, from Mrs. Hocum's Class at East Elementary and Ivan Rodriguez, second, from Mrs. Hocum's Class at East Elementary; fourth-graders Eunalie Fangonilo, first, from Mr. Gertz's Class at Main Elementary and Soottipa Kunphimai, second, from Mr. Gertz's Class at Main Elementary; and fifth-graders Hannah Deal, first place and overall grand prize winner, from Mrs. Sutton's Class at East Elementary and Jeany Magalong, second, from Mrs. Anthony's Class at Main Elementary.
