The University of Oregon senior finished second in the 5,000-meter run at the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships at in Pullman, Wash.
Dunbar, a 2009 Kodiak High School graduate, finished the 5,000 with a time of 13 minutes, 45.26 seconds, just .001 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Eric Jenkins of Oregon.
Arizona’s Lawi Lalang won the event, which featured 27 runners, in 13:41.44.
Dunbar scored eight points for his second-place finish as Oregon rolled to its eighth-straight Pac-12 title with 163.25 points.
The top 48 declared athletes per event in the West Region will advance to the NCAA Preliminary Rounds beginning on May 29 in Fayetteville, Ark. The competitors will be announced on Thursday.
The National Championships begin June 11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
