Alaska State Troopers arrested two 21-year-olds on drug charges after a traffic stop last week, and summoned a juvenile into court for drug charges on July 5.

On July 10, troopers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Carroll Way and Spruce Cape Road, according to a trooper report.

One of the passengers, Steven Macinko was on probation for a prior charge of theft in the second degree and the other passenger, Joan Pedersen, was in possession of methamphetamine.

The troopers contacted probation officers and Macinko tested positive for narcotics, the trooper report said.

Drug paraphernalia was seen in the vehicle, so the vehicle was seized. The vehicle was found to contain heroin and evidence of drug trafficking and distribution, the report said.

Macinko was charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree and the fourth degree. Pedersen was charged with misconduct with a controlled substance in the second degree.

The driver, Michelle Poulos, 23, was arrested and charged with driving while license revoked and violating conditions of release.

On July 5 at 12:45 a.m., troopers stopped a vehicle for a traffic offense on the Chiniak Highway. The 17-year-old driver had marijuana and was driving a non-family member in his vehicle, something not allowed with his provisional license, the trooper report said. He was issued a summons to appear in court for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the sixth degree and cited for driving in violation of a provisional driver’s license.

The Mirror reported on July 9 that law enforcement has seized $300,000 worth of drugs in the last year.
