For football fans, Tuesday was a holiday with the release of Madden 15.

I picked up my copy before work and stared at coverboy Richard Sherman the entire day — not much work got done that day.

Since a Seahawk graced the cover, I thought about leaving the game in the package, but I thought better of it and ripped off the plastic and stuck the disc into the Xbox as soon as I got home from work.

I was not disappointed, and have been spending too much time in front of the television — I even broke away from the Mariners’ 12-4 loss to Texas on Wednesday to play.

Enough Madden.

For the second straight week I posted a 7-2 mark. My season total now stands at 14-4, which is a .777 winning percentage.

I didn’t predict Juneau losing to Wasilla or Kenai falling to Lathrop.

Once again I will not get to predict North Pole’s game, because the Patriots played at Palmer Thursday night.

Week 3:

Valdez (1-1) at Houston (0-2) — After a pair of losses to begin the season, Houston is proving why it opted to play as an independent. Valdez got blown out by Barrow and blew out Voznesenka. This game will be closer for the Buccaneers … BUCCANEERS 24, HAWKS 17.

Nikiski (2-0) at Monroe Catholic (0-2) — The Bulldogs have started the season with a pair of nonconference victories and will pick up its first Greatland Conference win of the season this week … BULLDOGS 45, RAMS 7.

Voznesenka (0-1) at Eielson (2-0) — Eielson has scored 92 points in two games and will not slow down this week against Voznesenka, a team that gave up 44 points in its season-opener last week … RAVENS 52, COUGARS 14.

Homer (0-2) at Barrow (2-0) — Barrow will continue its strong start of the season by holding serve on its Smurf turf … WHALERS 28, MARINERS 21.

Thunder Mountain (1-1) at Soldotna (2-0) — Soldotna will be playing its second string by the second half … STARS 62, FALCONS 7.

Seward (1-1) at Ketchikan (1-1) — This is a tough one to pick, because I still don’t know much about either team. My dog Gizmo tells me I should go with … KINGS 21, SEAHAWKS 20.

Colony (2-0) at Juneau-Douglas (1-1) — Juneau cost me a game last week when I thought for sure it would handle Wasilla. This week it gets the best Mat-Su Valley team in fourth-ranked Colony … KNIGHTS 35, CRIMSON BEARS 24.

Kodiak (1-1) at Kenai (0-2) — Kodiak stayed in playoff contention with a close victory over Homer last week, while Kenai suffered a one-point loss to Lathrop. The Kardinals will be pumped for their first home game of the season … KARDINALS 42, BEARS 14.
